DaVonne grew up in the South Bend area and attended Riley High School. She is a graduate of Bethel College with a degree in psychology. While at Bethel, she was a member of Bethel’s Multiethnic Resource Team, and chair for this committee on Bethel’s Student Council. She was also part of Undignified Praise—Bethel’s gospel choir.
In 2006, DaVonne received the Billy Kirk Minority Leadership award, a four-year scholarship from Bethel College. She was also the recipient of scholarships from the Rotary Club in South Bend and Drifters, Incorporated, “a group of dynamic women with civic, charitable and educational interests who dedicate their talents to the enhancement of their chosen communities and the universal image of womanhood” (see http://southbenddrifters.org/). In 2006, DaVonne also received a woman’s leadership award from the YWCA. DaVonne enjoys singing, writing poetry and volunteering.
